FASA ELECTION CANCELLED DUE TO PERCEIVED MALPRACTICES

By Campus Mirror

The Faculty of Art Students Association (FASA) general election which was held on Tuesday, March 5, was rendered inconclusive due to perceived malpractices which resulted in a crisis among students of the faculty.

The election which started and ended prematurely amidst doubt from voters that the Electoral Committee was playing a "foul game" with the election as reported, began, with a misunderstanding among voters, causing a delay in the voting process.

The clashes that erupted among the electorates, in the early stage which put a pause on the electoral process, were swiftly resolved and gave continuity to voting. However, everything still didn't seem well as some students "claimed they were not allowed to vote".

In addition to this, students of the faculty showed their displeasure towards the electoral activities, claiming that the "election was biased and not well organised".

Olaoluwa Willaims, a student and voter from the English Language department emphasized the significance of orderliness and efficiency in conducting the election to guarantee a credible and fair result.

The President of the Department of Philosophy Student Association, Comrade Olujimi Samuel, disclosed, while acknowledging the challenges faced during the election, says "I'm disappointed both in the security and electoral committee, and would suggest that the election be cancelled".

Students of the faculty protested as the Electoral Committee decided to end the election and count votes, following the disruption of the Electoral process, because the majority had not cast their votes.

The FASA Stakeholders Chairman, Zubair Bashir, popularly known as Sen. Holychild, addressing this issue said "Enemies of the faculty were actually the cause of the electoral crisis.

However, it happened that and really showed that outsiders were more interested in the Faculty of Arts Elections than the Students, but nevertheless, the election was cancelled following the threat by the S.U.G President that the election was not going to be counted. In the course of trying to find a solution to the crisis, the DSA arrived and canceled the election."

As of press time, FASA ECO body is yet to release any information regarding the exercise.
