Students of Olabisi Onabanjo University Students’ Union Government have been formally informed of a temporary increase in campus transportation fares across the Ago-Iwoye campus.
The announcement, released on March 23, 2026, follows a series of deliberations between union leaders and campus bus drivers, triggered by the continuous rise in fuel prices nationwide.
According to the union, drivers initially proposed a ₦200 increase across all routes. However, after careful consideration and negotiations, a compromise was reached, approving a ₦50 increase instead.
The new fare adjustment is set to take effect from Tuesday, March 24, 2026, and will apply to all campus routes.
Union representatives emphasized that the decision was not made lightly, noting the financial strain it may place on students. They, however, described the adjustment as a necessary response to current economic realities.
Students have also been advised to go out with exact fares to avoid delays and disputes, while any driver found charging above the approved rate should be reported with clear evidence.
Importantly, the union assured students that the increase is temporary, with a binding agreement in place for fares to return to previous rates once fuel prices stabilize.
The Students’ Union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting student welfare and ensuring fairness and accountability in campus transportation.
