The Student's Union Government (SUG) of Olabisi Onabanjo University has disclosed that efforts to resolve the persistent power supply crisis at the College of Engineering and Environmental Studies (CEES), Ibogun Campus, are in their final stages in a statement released on March 20, 2026.
In the oofficial statement issued from the Office of Vice President 4 and signed by Executive President Kehinde O. Bamgbose and General Secretary Olajire Emmanuel, the SUG briefed students on the outcome of a meeting held with representatives of the electrical distribution ccompany.
According to the statement, the long-awaited Fashina transformer installation project has reached 95% completion and is now at its final stage. However, the process cannot proceed until formal approval is granted by the company's head office, which is currently being awaited.
The SUG noted that the transformer project is a self-help initiative driven by the host community and managed by a contractor, with the distribution company's role limited to energizing the infrastructure upon formal request.
Beyond electricity supply, the SUG used the meeting to raise alarm over the security implications of the prolonged outages. Student representatives linked the persistent darkness on campus to a recent spike in robbery incidents within student hostels, arguing that poor lighting creates conditions that enable criminal activity.
The distribution company acknowledged the concern but attributed the broader situation to a nationwide power challenge, while assuring the student body that improvements to supply are actively being pursued.
The union closed its statement on a reassuring note, expressing appreciation for the company's engagement and pledging to keep students informed as developments unfold.
"We will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates," the statement read.
