OOU MASS COM EXECUTES CSR PROJECT AT SAGUN SCHOOL, ORU-IJEBU

 By John Oyebode

The department of Mass Communication, Olabisi Onabanjo University carried out a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project at Sagun United School, Oru-Ijebu Ogun State, Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

The CSR Project was in courtesy of set 2021/2022 Community Relations students, tagged “Towards the Educational Development of Tomorrow's Leaders”. The project commenced by 10am with mass communication students engaging the pupils in different entertaining and sports activities.

The male pupils played football while females engaged in  kiddies rhyme games. The relay race had the involvement of both genders. Eight outstanding pupils who put in a good shift in the football match were given the privilege to face the legendary goalkeeper of Mass Communication Football Team; Akinsanya Benjamin, in a penalty kick. Only three out of eight were able to get past Benjamin in what seem like an intentional act to make the children happy by allowing the ball to get past him into the back of the net.

The project supervisor and also head of mass communication department, Dr. Lanre Akinola, while speaking on the aim of the project said, “In line with the Vice Chancellor's vision we need to teach more of practicals and this course is community relations , the principle is that an organization must relate well with its host community.”

“Within the very limited resources that we have we felt that, what can we do to show the community that we appreciate them so the students themselves decided that we organize something for a primary school”.

All communicators present, were mandated by Dr Akinola, to pick a pupil each to get to know and also  relate better with them which eventually served as a pass for the pupils to receive their gifts which consisted of a customized book, branded water bottle and refreshments, well packaged in a party favor bag.
