The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), OOU chapter, has recently granted scholarships to 29 indigent students at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), each receiving a substantial award of ₦200,000.
The scholarship presentation ceremony took place at the ASUU-OOU Secretariat where beneficiaries were selected based on their financial needs and academic qualifications. According to the ASUU-OOU Vice Chairman, Mr. Olooto Wasiu Eniola, ASUU National sponsored two students, while ASUU-OOU sponsored 27 students, making a total of 29 beneficiaries.
The students expressed their gratitude, with Zulaikha Idris Omayoza, a final-year pharmacy student, saying the scholarship has brought her immense relief during challenging economic times. Another beneficiary, Oppoola Kingdom, a 500-level crop production student, praised ASUU for the grant, which has inspired him to practice generosity in the future.
The ASUU-OOU branch has increased the scholarship amount by ₦100,000 this year due to economic factors. The union plans to sponsor more scholarships in the future, depending on available funds.
