The Students' Union Government Electoral Committee Officers (SUG-ECO) has suspended the ECO Representative of Ayetoro Constituency for violation of the SUGECO Acts.
According to the memo circulated by the ECO in the late hours of Sunday, January 19, 2024, the accused has violated the in-house SHS election rules, refused to comply with the directives of the ECO committee, and has failed to add key officials to relevant platforms.
"This memo serves as formal notification of your immediate suspension from your duties as the ECO-Representative of Ayetoro Constituency, effective immediately, based on the following violations: violation of the In-house SHS Election rules; you failed to uphold the guidelines and procedures critical for the smooth and credible conduct of the SHS election.
"Refusal to comply with directives of the ECO committee; despite multiple reminders, text messages, and calls from the ECO chairman and other members of the committee, they ignored and disregarded direct instructions, and failure to add key officials to relevant platforms; you deliberately refused to add the ECO Chairman, ECO General Secretary, and ECO Special Duties Officer (SPEDU) to the necessary group essential for monitoring and managing the election process."
The ECO reiterates that the actions of the representative have disrupted the election preparation process and undermined the authority of the ECO.
"Your actions have disrupted the election preparation process and undermined the authority of the ECO-Committee, necessitating this disciplinary measure."
The memo further states the consequences attached to the suspension.
"You are hereby relieved of all duties associated with your position as ECO representative, you are no longer authorized to act in any official capacity on behalf of the ECO committee or the Ayetoro constituency, and all SHS forms sold by you from the Ayetoro constituency are declared null and void, and the ECO SPEDU will assume full responsibility for the sale and validation of new senator forms in the Ayetoro constituency."
Following this suspension, the ECO has therefore rendered all the. Students' House of Senate (SHS) forms obtained from the Ayetoro constituency representative null and void, instructing the constituency members to purchase their SHS forms directly from the ECO SPEDU within 24 hours.
"All Ayetoro constituency members are hereby instructed to purchase their forms directly from the ECO SPEDU within 24 hours. Forms previously obtained from the suspended ECO representative are now null and void and will not be accepted for any purpose," the memo reads.
