Social Philosopher Sensitizes OOU Students Politically Ahead 2019 General Elections

The department of Sociology, Olabisi Onabanjo University will be having its exclusive week for this year on the 22nd -25th of May 2018.

The four days event would kick start with seminar tagged "The Role of The Youth in The 2019 General Election Towards a Better Nigeria".

According to the President of the department, Comrade Sokoya Olakunle, popularly known as Social Philosopher; the seminar is aimed at inculcating a good political habit within Nigerian youths and to stop them from being a political dogs to the political ‘jagabans’.

"We are trying to sensitise and enlighten the youth on how they would be a catalyst, an instrument of a better Nigerian through the 2019 general election because we observed that in most elections to manipulate, to rig or to disturb election is basically carried out by some youth initiated by the political jagabans of the country. They used the youth to achieve their own selfish interest, so we want to have a platform whereby we can call the youth together, let them know that for a better Nigeria to exist which all of us have been clamoring for, our future now lies in our hands, we can do this ourselves, so that we have a lot of roles to play in the 2019 election".

Asides the seminar, the Sociology President said that there will be a Presidential debate for the 7 departmental Presidents under the faculty of Social Sciences.

"The 7 departmental presidents would be coming to debate and to enlighten students on: Is it youth that is the answer to Nigeria's Social political economic problems or restructuring?"

He advised students that having a better Nigeria lies in our hands. "I would let all students to know that this school is a learning process in which all of us know and there are something we could learn out of our academic or out of our field. The better Nigeria you and I want, we have it in our hands, let us live a life worthy of emulation so that we'll be able to live our footprints on sand of time, so that people would be able to see we that have an impact to lives". He said.
