The Olabisi Onabanjo University Students House of Senate (SHS) hosted the Legislative Summit for the second time on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel(OGD) Hall.
The programme which focuses on engaging discussions on crucial topics like constitutional amendment, Legislative oversight, public accountability, and effective representation is brought back to life by the 36th Hallowed Chamber of the Students House of Senate led by Senator Mutui Abiodun after it was first launched in 2019 when Dist. Senator Cypher headed the 32nd Hallowed Chamber of the OOU Students House of Senate (SHS).
One of the primary objectives of the summit was to unveil the newly amended constitution for Olabisi Onabanjo University which marks a crucial step forward in the institution's commitment to ensuring a transparent and efficient legislative system. The amended constitution is expected to enhance governance processes within the university, fostering an environment conducive to growth and progress.
The summit also dedicated considerable attention to exploring the role of youth, the leaders of tomorrow, in societal development. Participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions on how young individuals can contribute meaningfully, adding value to their communities. Deliberations also centered around navigating the challenges of the modern economy, underscoring the diminishing significance of certificates in securing employment and the growing importance of acquiring various soft skills.
The legislative summit held at Olabisi Onabanjo University encapsulated a transformative and enlightening experience for all attendees. It served as a compelling reminder to the youth that effective change begins with them. By empowering and equipping future leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge, society can collectively foster progress and advancement. The event's impact is expected to resonate far beyond the university's walls, inspiring similar initiatives across the nation and beyond.
The Summit themed "Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: FORGING A PATH TO PROGRESSION", emphasized the potential impact on shaping the future of legislation and governance. Among the notable attendees were the Ebumawe of Ago Iwoye, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adenugba,Vice Chancellor of OOU, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, NANS Senate President, Babatunde Akinteye, Emeritus OOU Senate President, Olwatobi Bashorun and representatives from other institutions across Ogun State.
