E-LEARNING BECOMES THE NEW NORMAL IN OOU

 ▪️ DSA Says it has come to stay

The online class which commenced on the 4th of January 2021 due to the Coronavirus Pandemic has caused a lot of controversy among students, as some students struggled all through the Rain Semester to adjust to the 'new normal’ in the educational sector, while faced with several problems ranging from having difficulties with their respective networks to having difficulties concentrating from their homes due to the fact that the university advised students to stay away from the university campuses.

However, while some students had difficulties with the online class, others totally enjoyed the experience and believes that it’s best it continues so students can observe the social distancing put in place to avoid continuous spread of the coronavirus and save them the stress of going to the university campus everyday.

The University Management has assured both students and lecturers that they are working tirelessly to improve the E-learning and they are making progress. They are also working to make sure that internet is easily assessable to both the students and lecturers as this is one of the major problem both parties are facing.

In an interview with the Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Moruff Oladimeji,he made it known that the Online class will continue in subsequent sessions as 60% of students will now receive lectures on the internet. Furthermore, he enlightened us on the provision of a platform put in place by the Ministry of Education where students can interact and some books can be downloaded for free. 

The University has made arrangements that will make E-learning easier in the coming semester as they are working tirelessly to improve the rating of the University internationally, in terms of teaching, infrastructure and it’s ability to connect with people in other part of the world.

The DSA also informed Campus Mirror of the introduction of a smart board which will be introduced in the coming semester. In his own words, “the smart board is good in such a way that even after the class, you can continue to listen to it as if you’re listening to music”. The smart board works by recording the entire lecture and automatically saves it online so students can easily access it whenever they need it either in the audio or video form. The smart board also makes it easier to connect with lecturers in other parts of the country and the world at large."

It is also confirmed that the 5,000 Naira that has been presumed that students will pay, will be for an entire session and will provide students with free internet access whenever they are on the campus.
