OOU-SUG: SILENCE IN A MARKET PLACE

Can any sane person compile a noise maker list in a market place? Weird isn't it? Sure it is. Market — apart from the buying and selling — is known for all the bustling of sellers, the humming of hundreds of buyers that transformed into a whirlwind of noise and even the nice collaboration of animals and automobiles to produce a beautiful noise track to lit up the rhythm in our ears.

Noise is just inevitable in a market place. As a matter of fact, it is essential for us to keep the culture of trade alive. However, I think there are two kind of noise in the market place; The humming of Buyers and Sellers performing the needed trade rituals, and the crackled sound of the real noisemakers, that is not needed.

My School is a Market Place; It costed me a good fortune to be here and a pretty huge ransom to buy the book of knowledge, after series of bargains with examinations. Our sole trader in this market place is the Students' Union Government . How? They don't grow the tree of money in their Aluta Chamber , do they? And are we (the students) not expecting a return of the unconscious favour? Also, we paid in our vote for us to buy their services! What's the cause of the silence at our sole trader's stand? Glory be to God, the harmattan semester 's examination has silenced the real noisemakers (the transport system and the political critics' brouhaha) but what is silencing the essential noise, the bargain between sellers (SUG) and Buyers (OOUites) ? Exams? It's better not be.

The Clock is ticking, seconds are wasting, minutes are dying and hours are vanishing. Do I need to remind my coolheaded amiable President Adeosun Williams led administration that our Market place is not Nigeria and doesn't happen every four years. Harmattan semester is packing its loads and the short heighted Rain semester will soon be packing in. The REBRANDING of OOU you promised is like Rome, it can't be built in a month, so start now! Let me use the words of erudite by Adékúnlé Adébàjò to round up , "I run the risk of saying too much while fearing also that I — perhaps — have not said enough".

This is a marketplace no time for silence.
