We Cannot Assure Reduction In New Transportation Rates - SUG Transport Committee

The SUG OOU Transport Committee has said that it cannot guarantee a reduction in the new fare rates being charged by the drivers in the permanent site of the University as long as fuel scarcity persists.

This was disclosed by the General Secretary of the committee, Aare Wasiu Hamzat during a telephone interview with Campus Mirror. It is well understood that the ongoing fuel scarcity has plunged transportation rates higher in the University environment even beyond.

Investigations made by Campus Mirror shows that bus rates from Ago Garage to P.S which was earlier N50 is now charged N70 while Oru is now N120 from N90. This puts fresh and returning students in more financial troubles as an average students now spends at least N200 daily on transportation alone.

"We are planning a reduction in the fare rates but we cannot assure a reduction if the fuel hike is still on.", Wasiu told Campus Mirror. However, He promised that if the fuel price returns to N143, the Transport Committee will take appropriate action and make sure the price is being reduced to normal.
