Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) is set to confer degrees on 5,808 graduates during its 35th Convocation Ceremonies, which commenced today, Thursday, January 22, 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor announced this at a press briefing held at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye, expressing gratitude to the media for their unwavering support since his assumption of office on October 13, 2022.
According to the graduation statistics, the full-time programme produced the highest number of graduands with 5,500 students, while the Centre for Continuing Education (CCED) and Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes accounted for 302 and 6 students respectively.
The breakdown reveals that 147 graduates earned First Class honours, 2,051 obtained Second Class Upper Division, and 2,927 achieved Second Class Lower Division. Additionally, 571 graduates obtained Third Class Degree, 26 had a Pass degree, while 86 were uncategorized.
The week-long convocation features several activities including a Health Walk scheduled for Friday, January 23 at 7:00am, a Special Jumat Service at 1:30pm, and the main Convocation Service on Sunday, January 25 at the Chapel of Abundant Life, Main Campus.
A highlight of the ceremonies will be the conferment of an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science on Mr. Ayo Ojuroye, Founder of Optimus Bank and Chairman of Mango Asset Management, scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026. The ceremony will feature a convocation lecture titled "Repositioning Nigerian Universities as Innovation Hubs for Entrepreneurship and National Development," delivered by Dr. Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
The Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON, will serve as Special Guest of Honour at the occasion, which is expected to attract dignitaries including Vice-Chancellors from sister universities, scholars, and eminent Nigerians.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the university's commitment to academic excellence, noting that the institution continues to climb global rankings driven by impactful research and breakthrough initiatives in tertiary education development.
Other notable events during the convocation week include a Cultural Day on Tuesday, January 27 to showcase Nigeria's rich culture and values, an Agric and Engineering Show on Wednesday, January 28, and a Novelty Match between female and male staff.
On Thursday, January 29, the admission of first-degree to students for the 2025/2026 academic session will commence with various faculties including Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Pharmacy, and Social Sciences. Other faculties like Sciences, administrative and management sciences, and others will get their degree on Friday, January 30.
