The OOU Students' Union Government (SUG), on Thursday, November 14, has announced new measures to tackle campus transportation challenges and make campus transportation smoother and affordable.
According to the memorandum released by the Union on Thursday, the SUG, after having discussions with major stakeholders, such as the ASCODO shuttle drivers, SUG shuttle drivers, tricycle riders, and university management, agreed on measures that work for everyone.
Students should note that "The Union buses will continue to operate to ensure the safe movement of students at all terminals, existing terminals would be maintained, while newly created ones would be scrapped to keep things organized and efficient. To further alleviate the pressure, large Marcopolo buses will be deployed to facilitate students' movements in the mini campus.
"The most reassuring news for students, perhaps, is that the current transportation fares will remain the same until further notice, thus easing financial constraints.
"A big shout-out to the Ebumawę of Ago Iwoye for stepping in and helping the union lock these deals down. In this regard, the SUG made sure to emphasize that he was so passionate about student welfare and that all these came into reality with his support," the memo reads.
And there’s even more good news. The SUG’s 37th Public Relations Officer (PRO), Honourable Ab, through a post on her X handle on Thursday, dropped an update: “I have reached out to the Dean of Student Affairs, and he confirmed that there will be no academic activities on campus on Friday, November 15,” she posted.
