This information was circulated by the SOSSA Electoral Committee through a memorandum shared in the late hours of today, November 19, after a presidential candidate, Oluwafemi Soremi (popularly known as Genabel) reportedly stepped down from the presidential race with his counterpart, Afolabi Olamilekan (popularly known as Senator Maple) today.
The memo reads in part: "We hereby announce that Honourable Soremi Olufemi Emmanuel Pka Genabel has formally resigned from the race for the Faculty President position. We received and honored his request in accordance with our election procedures, leading to his withdrawal from the candidacy.
"In line with this action, the Electoral Committee has reached a decision on the Faculty President position, naming the only remaining contestant, Afolabi Olamilekan Tim. Pka Sen. Maple, as the winner by default. This result came about due to the unexpected resignation of Hon. Soremi Olufemi Emmanuel Pka Genabel, the only other candidate in the race.
"With this development, we assure all faculty members that Sen. Maple was duly elected according to the rules and regulations set forth by the Electoral Committee. We congratulate Sen. Maple on his victory and look forward to his leadership.
"Additionally, we wish to inform the esteemed members of the Faculty of Social Sciences that all other positions in the election are now unopposed. This development means that the electoral process has concluded with the remaining candidates as the victors," the memo reads.
