The Transportation Committee is protesting and opposing the Students’ Union’s decision to revert transportation fares to their previous rates.
On the 30th of April, 2024, the Students' Union with the transportation committee reached a compromise to temporarily increase the transport fares by a hundred naira, following the hike in fuel price at the time. On Monday, June 10, 2024, the SUG released a memo, stating that;" After careful consideration and consultation with the transportation body, we are pleased to announce that the fares have been reversed to their previous amount, effective immediately".
However, the transportation committee was not happy with the decision, which then led to a meeting with the SUG yesterday, June 11, 2024, on campus, but the meeting ended in a deadlock.
According to our source, Patane Joshua, popularly known as Leukocyte (the 37th SUG Social Director) who was an eyewitness, said, “After the meeting, the bus drivers all left and blocked the road at Chips. They stopped all the vehicles from picking up our students who were left in the school. They even went the extra mile to stop both keke napep and every means of transporting those students.”
“We went there to address them and showed our displeasure as regards their actions. But the best they could do was display diabolical behavior; trying to use spiritual rings and handkerchiefs, knowingfully well that we are students and cannot withstand their spiritual and devilish approach, we called the police to come to our aid. Upon arrival, they fled.”
