Campus Shuttles Drivers in the permanent site of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye has shown their grievances towards the reintroduction of virtual lectures announced by the school management.
This follows the memo approved by the Vice Chancellor on behalf of the Senate to immediately kickstart the virtual lectures for all students which takes effect from today, Monday June 3rd, 2024.
In an interview with a driver who would like to remain anonymous lamented about the reintroduction of online classes, he said “Before the reintroduction of virtual classes, I usually take 3 to 4 turns per day and today I have only be able to go once and even some drivers has not gone at all because students are not going to school for classes but to either go to the bank or other areas of the school.”
“By 10 or 11am, there are hardly students and the online classes are having negative influence on our business because it is reducing passengers and they are not able to make the enough profit and our children also attend OOU which means we have to give them money for data and yet, we are not making enough profit.”
Another driver also said “I go 3 to 4 turns per day and since I got to the park after 4am, I have not had my turn yet, online class is dragging this work because not more than 5 to 8 cars has left the park. Many student don’t have a good phone for the class and internet might also be bad and the not many student will be able to connect. Online class should be cancelled so that student will be able to understand and interact better in the class.”
Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced its participation in an indefinite nationwide strike organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which also commenced today, June 3, 2024.
The drivers pleads with the Vice Chancellor to kindly scrap Virtual classes.
