Adebanjo Oyeyemi Iyanuoluwa, a final year student from the Department of Corporate and Rural Development (CRD), under the faculty of Administrative and Management Science, was hit by a car at Awa Road on his way to purchase something (bread to be precise )and was reported dead on the spot.
The incident happened on Saturday, July 15, 2023. According to the DPO of Awa District Police Station, Mr. Olusegun Awolesi, the accident occurred as a result of high speeding by the driver. He further stated that the driver sustained a chest injury. This injury was a result of falling into a ditch after hitting the victim. The driver has been rushed to the nearest hospital in Ijebu Igbo.
The mother of the deceased, Mrs Adebanjo said;" we are not pressing charges, as we have accepted fate," in her meeting with the SUG President, Comr. Moshood Feyisetan Adeogun.
The Union President insisted that the DPO must keep him informed concerning the issue Also, he assured the President and all students that the driver will be present at the police station on Monday, July 17, when he will be coming back from the hospital. Aside from demanding that the Police officers carry the Students Union along in the case, the SUG President and the other executives present also register their agitation for the renovation of the Awa road. The road has continued to claim the lives of students in the area and it's high time that it gets renovated.
The Chief Security Officer of the school was present, as well as some other Council members of the School, one of them Prof. Mohammed from the faculty of Administrative and Management Science.
