Tragedy struck in the town of Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, as a fire outbreak occurred in a student hostel of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), claiming the properties of three students.
The incident, which happened in the early hours of today, was said to have been caused by a fight between a couple and the husband set the house ablaze. Eyewitnesses say the fire quickly spread to other parts of the building due to the presence of inflammable materials such as mattresses and curtains.
Speaking on the incident, the President, Student Union Government, Adeogun Feyisetan Moshood (FEYI) expressed his sympathy and condolences to the affected students and the neighbood and urged students to be more safety conscious.
He said, "The metter is currently in Abobi Police stations as the PPO of the station and PSA met me at the scene. Arrangements is equally made by the union as to examination pass for 2 of them that will be having exams. We equally care for their sound mind."
The incident has sent shockwaves through the university community, with students calling for more safety measures to be put in place in the hostels. They have also called on the government to provide more support to the fire service in order to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
