A 400 level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Victor Oluwatimilehin has been arrested by officers of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly knocking down and injuring a policeman on patrol duty.
This occurred along the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan road on June 1st when Oluwatimilehin "was seen driving a fully tinted artificial Toyota Camry with registration number LND 929 GX loaded with some house properties towards Ibadan Oyo state and was flagged down for checking since the occupants are not visible from outside," the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi said.
Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday in Abeokuta, saying that the victim, Inspector Idowu Moses was on duty with his vehicle when he was injured by Timilehin who made an attempt motive to kill the policeman who was on duty along PMF 71, Awa-Ijebu road.
"Having knocked down the policeman, the driver continued his journey with his car along Ibadan road," the Spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command revealed.
"The seriously injured police officer was rescued by his colleagues and was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment, while others started a hunt for the suspect towards Ibadan road."
"He was finally apprehended at a village close to Ibadan and brought down to the Ijebu Area Command".
Oyeyemi further added that the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole had ordered the suspect to be charged to court as soon as possible.
As at the time of reporting this development, a verdict is yet to be given.
