OOU Students call for Resumption of Physical Classes



DSA: There are chances we will resume soon.


After the suspension of the 9 months strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on 23rd December, 2020 and in a bid to commence Academic activities, Olabisi Onabanjo University announced the Resumption of Lectures, virtually. The Program which, began on January 4, 2021 in preparation for January 18th Federal Government School Reopening Directive.

Unfortunately, the spike in the cases of Coronavirus made the University suspend physical resumption, and urged the Students to focus on their Online Classes.

Reactions that trailed this development opined that Virtual Learning is still strange to the Students, coupled with Data consumption, unstable network service and limitation of the Learning platform for High populated classes like the GNS, pleading with the management to consider a Resumption to physical classes.

Reacting to the turn of events, in an with Interview with Campus Mirror, the Dean, Students Affairs, Dr Olademeji, said, the late resumption is not peculiar to Olabisi Onabanjo University and the shift in resumption is in a bid to protect the University and Staff. In his words "We cannot compare certain institutions with OOU, we have a high population here. We have to take the needed precautions".

He further stated that "it is not only OOU that hasn't resumed physically, so many haven't. Some Universities are even going to have their Examination online, but we won't here. Exams will hold in school"

The Dean commenting on whether the School Calendar will be changed said , "Calendar can only be reviewed by the Senate, there is no review yet. The Examination date on the calendar still stands and there are chances we will resume soon"

Earlier, the Students Union in a Statement has said the students agitations has been carried to the university management, and  communicated resolutions like; General classes be put on hold, Final Year Students Project Submission to continue via Mails, Resuscitating the e-Library, and suspension of practical classes.
