“I FIGHT, I BLEED, AND I REPRESENT MY DEPARTMENT WITH PRIDE” – POL SCI COACH

By Oluwatobiloba Adeosun

The Department of Political Science coach, Abdulsalam Atanda, popularly known as Niqwyse, has silenced doubters after winning both the Social Sciences (SOSSA) Dean's Cup and the Freshers' Cup in a day.

The final match of the SOSSA Dean's and Freshers Cup, which took place Friday, May 2 at Estadio de Sun, witnessed the Department of Political Science dunk the Department of Economics twice as both senior and junior teams met in the final.

The Political scientist's senior team defeated the economists 2-1 to clinch the Dean's Cup, while their junior team also defeated the economist's junior team in a penalty shootout.

Niqwse, while speaking with Campus Mirror at the post-match interview, described how he feels winning two trophies in a day as being exhausting but exciting as he was able to prove those who looked down on him wrong.

"I feel both exhausted and excited. For my department, I know this means a lot. Winning the Dean’s Cup back-to-back is no small feat, and doing the same for the freshers' Cup is no joke either. I’ve seen the pride in the posts, the messages from players, and the reactions from all NAPSSITES.

"For me personally, it means even more. Many doubted me. I drew my first match as a coach for both the fresher and senior teams. Some said I wouldn’t win anything and that I should go back to my mentor and start over. Others said worse. But I hope this moment proves something that I am worthy, resilient, and hardworking. I fight, I bleed, and I represent my department with pride, and today, we won two trophies in one day" he said.

Furthermore, he thanked the team for allowing him to stop the insults he was receiving and also charged their fans to give them more support.

“To the team, I want to say a very big and loud thank you. Without you all, I wouldn’t have had anything to silence the doubters I would still be receiving insults. To the fans, we need your support more than ever. Don’t let your belief in this team fade. Stand with us always,” he added.
