The Nigerian Association of Science Students (NASS), Olabisi Onabanjo University, has successfully elected new leaders into the 25/26 administration — ending a nine-month leadership vacuum that left the association without an administration throughout the 24/25 academic session.
The polls, which took place on Tuesday night, recorded a total of 868 votes from students across the science faculties. The election process was momentarily disrupted by tension, disapprovals, and brief unrest during the manifesto presentation and voting, but was eventually restored to order.
Makanjuola Adunife Solomon, popularly known as Adunbaby, secured a resounding victory in the presidential race with 620 votes, defeating his opponent Muritala Aminat (Meenah) who polled 198 votes.
Speaking with OOU Campus Mirror shortly after the declaration, an emotional Adunbaby expressed overwhelming gratitude to NASSites for their support.
“I’m very, very happy. For the past nine months, since January, we did not have an administration. NASS is home… and we are proud again. The gap is very clear. I did not know that NASSites loved me like this,” he said.
“This is a big win for us. I’m very proud to serve this great association. To all NASSites and the great O’Mercy — we did this together.”
He also appreciated his opponent, Meenah, describing her as a friend who pushed him to work harder during the campaign.
Adunbaby reiterated his core agenda, including establishing a Science Research Club, female comrades’ empowerment, and strengthening both sports and academic activities in NASS.
The Electoral Chairman, Zenith, described the election as “smooth and peaceful,” despite minor turmoil recorded.
“The process was transparent with a relatively mid turnout. Students were enthusiastic and patient,” he told OOU Campus Mirror.
“For future improvement, voter engagement should be increased, and awareness on the importance of participating in elections must be intensified.”
He encouraged the new leaders to remain accountable and called on students to stay involved in governance.

Sports Secretary: Oluwatosin Jeremiah (Jerryboy) — Unopposed
With the elections concluded, NASS students are hopeful for a refreshed and active administration that will restore the association to full operation after months of silence and uncertainty
