OOU MASS COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.

On Monday, October 23, 2023, the Department of Mass Communication Commenced her 20th-anniversary celebration with an inter-school quiz competition, starting with the series of events outlined for her anniversary week. 


The first was the inter-school competition between Olabisi Onabanjo University Mass Communication students, Yaba Polytechnic Mass Students, and Macpherson University  Mass Communication Students.


The Quiz commenced with a welcome speech from Moses Bamidele, the President of the Association of Communication Students (ASCOM) OOU, and an opening prayer from a 100-level student. After that, representatives from 100  to 400 levels gave their speeches on Media and Cultural integration before the main quiz commenced.


The quiz was anchored by Dr Salaudeen Kamoru and at the end of the quiz, Yaba Polytechnic came first with 22.5 solid points beating the students of Olabisi Onabanjo University with 0.5 points as they came runner-up with 22 points.


On Tuesday, the students had a fun-filled day as the day was a game day for them. Games like ludo, Ayo-olopon, PlayStation, Chess, Draught, Table tennis, and a football match with Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic football team were hosted.During an interview with one of the OOU mass communication students identified as  Ogunnusi Hannah, she said “It was fun. We also had options, I mean with games like Scrabble, Ludo, Table tennis and so on. The dean and lecturers also showed up, Mrs Ajibola, who is one of our lecturers even joined our Scrabble game at one point. It was really interesting and I won the scrabble game”






On the third day, on Wednesday there was a rally around the school by the students of mass communication where they all dressed up in adire to celebrate culture and also a lecture on "Media, Culture and National Integration" by royalties and the higher-ups. His Royal Highness, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, Hon. Wasiu Adewale Olatunbosun, and other respectable personalities were present on the occasion. 





On Thursday was the talent hunt where the student was allowed to showcase their talent and a 100L student who sang during the talent hunt found favour in the eyes of the Head of the department who promised to promote him. A 200-level student, Ayobamidele Precious, was crowned the winner of the talent hunt show after several talents were displayed on the podium.


The last day of the event was dinner and award, which was on Friday, 27th of October. It was an evening program and special guests were also around. Several awards from the department were given out : Best dressed student was  awarded to Adelaja Opeyemi, most industrious was awarded to Ololade Peter, best poet was awarded to Oredemi Foluke, best singer was awarded to Ayobamidele Precious, e.t.c The celebration, which started on the 23rd and ended on the 27th of October, was a success. And students and lecturers from the Department are going to cherish memories from the anniversary celebration.
