Students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) will now pay higher fares for campus transportation following a recent adjustment announced by the Students’ Union Government Transport Committee (OOUSUTC).
In a notice dated April 18, 2026, the committee disclosed that transport fares across all major routes have been increased by an additional ₦50, citing rising fuel costs and operational challenges as the primary reasons for the decision.
According to the statement, the adjustment comes after a series of engagements with transport operators within the university community. The committee noted that the persistent increase in fuel prices has significantly impacted transport services, making it difficult to maintain previous fare rates.
The committee, however, reassured students that efforts are ongoing to improve the situation. It highlighted the recent resumption of Makopolo buses, which has already helped ease transportation pressure on campus. Plans are also underway to deploy additional vehicles in phases to reduce waiting time and enhance accessibility.
Under the new fare structure:
• School Park to Chips, Ago Garage, Pepsi — ₦400
• School Park to Konigba, Mini Campus — ₦400
• School Park to Olopomerin, Itamerin — ₦500
• School Park to Mariam, Oru — ₦500
Students were informed that the increase is temporary and will be reviewed once fuel prices drop to ₦1000, with a possibility of reverting to previous rates.
The Transport Committee urged students to arrive early at designated boarding points to ensure smooth access to available buses. It also appealed for patience and cooperation, assuring that all decisions are being made in the best interest of the student body.
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among students, with some expressing concern over the added financial burden, while others acknowledge the realities of the current economic situation affecting transportation services.
