Kabiru Toheeb Toyosi, popularly known as Cashlink has finally broken the silence on his disqualification from the 38th SUG presidential race by the Students' Union Government Electoral Committee Officers (SUGECO).
Cashlink has decided to clear the waters by shedding light on the issue that seems untrue to the students through a letter that reads in part: "At approximately 10:45pm as I checked because I was so stressed, Hon. Odunuga Pelumi, the OOUSUG Spedu, handed me a brown envelope. To my utter shock, the envelope contained a letter notifying me of my disqualification by the Electoral Committee (ECO).
" The stated reason for this disqualification was the erection of a campaign banner bearing my name that did not have the required signatures for authorization."
Cashlink claims not to have erected the banner which led to his disqualification. "I wish to categorically state that I did not erect the said banner. In my opinion, this banner might have been erected by someone with genuine love and belief in my leadership or with other intentions.
"As a former member of the Electoral Committee of this great union, I believe this is not a valid ground for disqualification. I have served diligently in the past and hold a deep understanding of the electoral process.
"I strongly believe this decision is unjust and unfair. I am, therefore appealing to the Electoral Committee (ECO) and relevant stakeholders in the OOU community to review this decision to uphold justice, fairness and the principles of open democracy," the letter reads.
In the meantime, Cashlink has disclosed the reason for his unavailability since yesterday evening, sparking curiosity among students. Speculations have arisen, with some suggesting that he may have been abducted.
"I'm grateful for your concern about my whereabouts and I regret any worry this may have caused. As my disappearance and inaccessibility were due to that, on my way home to Ijebu Ode town after the screening, I was involved in an accident. Thankfully, I sustained no major injuries, but my phone screen was damaged, which made me unreachable and I could not reach out to anyone too until I managed to get it repaired today.
"I sincerely thank you all for your strong support and understanding, I remain hopeful that the Electoral Committee will reconsider there decision, and I look forward to sharing positive news with you soon," the letter reads.
