The Faculty of Science president, Ojo Mercy, popularly known as O. Mercy, has commended the newbies, coach, and management of the Faculty of Science Freshers team for winning the Football Lovers Association (FLA) Interfaculty Freshers' Cup 2024.
O. Mercy, while conversing with Campus Mirror in an interview after the final against the faculty of Education on Friday, revealed how proud he was of all team members and management for putting the faculty forward.
“What we have here today it's not a matter of talent, it's a matter of hard work and I'm proud of these people for putting the faculty forward, pitching us very high and I commend the coach and every management that has managed all these players and I feel good,” he said.
O. Mercy didn't fail to recognize the ability of their opponents, the Faculty of Education, as he believes that they are a force to reckon with when it comes to sports.
“Faculty of Education; they are very good sports-wise. They are outstanding, we're not denying that, but there's something in Science that we believe in that the end justifies the means, so now we believe in training because you see, hard work can beat talent, obsession can beat hard work that's what we believe in Science,” he added.
Meanwhile, the coach, Dammie Niguez, who bagged an individual award as the best coach of the tournament, expressed his joy for winning the competition and also addressed his team's poor spot kick conversion rate in the competition.
“I feel good actually because this is the first time we're going to be achieving this. I feel nice, and I believe we'll achieve a lot together if we continue like this. No, I'm not worried; I have a penalty taker they just decided to share it amongst themselves,” he said.
