By Hannah Ogunnusi

The Chairman of the Student Union Government Electoral Committee, Comrade Ogunowe Emmanuel (OOWE) has announced the approved timetable by the school management for the student union election ensuring the election does not exceed three weeks. As anticipation builds for the coming election, Campus Mirror had an interview with the SUG ECO Chairman ahead of the election. In this interview,  he assures the student populace about the ECO committee preparations and plans ahead of the SUG election.

Campus Mirror(CM):Can you provide an overview of the election preparations?

Comrade Ogunowe Emmanuel (OOWE)The preparation is ongoing, I am sure you’re aware the OOUECO timetable is out. We are working tirelessly towards ensuring the election does not exceed three weeks.

CM What measures have been taken to ensure a fair and transparent election process?

OOWE: As I have promised earlier, I promise a free, fair, and transparent election. So far, we have been making sure everyone gets their form without delay and senatorial forms are not given to any cabals.

CM: How will potential instances of voter fraud or misconduct be handled?

OOWE: We have scheduled 26th September 2023 for an election Demo. I personally will ensure I look into all aspects and make sure we do not have any case of voter fraud. If there’s any evidence of voter fraud, the aspirant who is responsible will be prosecuted and disqualified.

CM: Can you explain the voting process, including the use of technology?

OOWE: I don’t have the full details yet but certainly it will be online. We will disclose all that later.

CM: What are the efforts of the Electoral Committee to make sure of equal participation of students across the four campuses in the election?

OOWE: Actually we can’t impose. But with the statistics with me, I can categorically say all campuses are actively involved. Many aspirants outside the main campus have purchased their forms already.

CM: There have been cases of Electoral manipulation during the past elections. What are the safeguards the new Electoral Committee is putting in place to prevent manipulation of results?

OOWE:We are working hard to ensure it doesn’t repeat itself.

CM: So are there any safeguards that have been put in place?

A: Our server is fully protected, no hacker can enter.

CM: How will the votes be counted, and how will the results be reported to the public?

OOWE:It will be live, in real-time, and all aspirants will have their rep in the hall.

IT'S 11 DAYS TO THE CENTRAL EXECUTIVE (CEC) ELECTION AND 12 DAYS TO THE SHS STUDENT HOUSE OF SENATE (SHS) ELECTION.
