OOU TO THE WORLD;PRODUCES OVERALL BEST SPEAKER AT NANS DEBATE



Olabisi Onabanjo University has proved again that it is indeed excellent as evident in the School's slogan _"excellentia humana, ex parte wa opus"_ as it produced the  overall best speaker of the Year, *Matthew Victoria* in the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Debate Competition, themed "Clash of Thoughts" organized by the coordinator of the NANS SOUTHWEST Zone D.


The competition, which took place at the Lagos State University( LASU) between 23 - 26 March 2021, the first of its kind in the history of Southwest Zone D, was organized by the committee of executive members with 30 institutions from the South West participating, with the first round of the competition being an essay writing contest in which only 22 institutions qualified to the semi-finals.


Olabisi Onabanjo University representatives - Matthew Victoria,  a 200 level Geology Student and Adegbite Victor, 200 level, Law -   rode OOU to the 6th position in a competition of more than 30 institutions.


The semi-final round, which was a debate, with 19 qualified institutions, produced only 10 schools for the finals with OOU bagging the third position for the debate category amidst the joy and happiness of the representatives.


Campus Mirror gathered that the finalists presented  an 8 minutes PowerPoint presentation on *Solution to an educational issue particular to youths in their locality* which had in attendance dignitaries from the Ministry of Education, proficient bodies from the Lagos State University (The host University), and also the NANS president Mr Sunday Asefon.



At the end of the presentation, FUNAAB came 10th, MOCPED 9th, OAU 8th, UI 7th, OOU 6th, TASUED 5th, EKSU 4th, FSS Ibadan 3rd and Unilag came 2nd, leaving the golden crown for LASU, the host University which came 1st winning the competition with 84.3%.
