In a recent visit to the hospital by the executive Governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, he disclosed his intentions to renovate and restructure the facility and make it functional as it should be.
The Governor who recently assumed office told newsmen he paid the visit, following report he received about the depressive state of the hospital, insisting that the situation is worse than deplorable, and the institution is unfit to produce competent doctors for now.
He stressed the urgent need for the rehabilitation of the hospital to upgrade from its present deplorable state to a world-class teaching hospital.
“Most of the medical equipment are obsolete and others dysfunctional. The mortuary and the entire vicinity reels in bad odour, due to lack of maintenance and non-availability of needed equipment to make it functional,” he said.
According to a former student of OOUTH, Dr Harvey Olufunmilayo, now based in the United Kingdom, he disclosed that the "hospital has become a death trap and cannot even qualify to be called an Immunization Centre".
The Teaching Hospital which used to be one of the best in country and the second teaching hospital in the South West, was established in 1986 as a General Hospital before it was affiliated with the University to train her medical students.
