Architecture Beats Banking And Finance To Lift SUG Freshers' Cup Trophy



The Architecture Engineering Department of Olabisi Onabanjo University again wolfs down the gold medal at the just completed Students' Union Government facilitated freshers' football competition.

The final match which was played on Friday 2nd March 2018 at the school sport complex between the Architecture Engineering Department and the Banking and Finance Department saw a splendid play by both sides players who demonstrated professionalism on the football pitch.

The tournament had in attendance the Vice Chancellor representative, Mr Olukoya Abayomi, Com. Taiwo ogungbe, the University bursar, Alhaji Semiu Makinde, The Varsity football coach and deputy sports coordinator, Coach Kenny Adeyemi.

Speaking with Campus Mirror before the tournament, the University football coach, Kehinde Adeyemi said one of the importance of the game was to discover talent among the freshmen and also breed them and others for future games even as the University anticipates the Ogun State inter tertiary institutions games coming very soon.

The match which was fierce in its first half did not record any goal as the players struggled more into the second half that had the Architecture Department scoring their first goal at about 11minutes later. The Banking and Finance nance Department had a penalty shot out awarded to them after which the two sides double the score board with a goal, each bringing the game to a penalty end.

Architecture Engineering Department had 7 penalty goals while Banking and Finance Department had 6 thereby making the Ibogun Campus Department winners.

The SUG Sports Director, Com Dada Abayomi aka SkyBoy speaking at the end of the event expressed his joy on the success of the game and the entire tournament. "We had about 30 department that participated in the in- football competition and I'm glad that our effort, financially, technically and time wise was not wasted. All glory to God."

The match also witnessed the presentation of medals to notable stakeholders in the sports committee, they include the varsity football coach, Kenny Adeyemi and Bursar, Alhaji Semiu Makinde, the former SUG Sport Director amongst other. The players and Coaches who demonstrated brilliance throughout the tournament were also recognized. They include: Alimi Yusuf; Oshiade Mohammed: Best Goalkeeper; Gemiu Yusuf: Highest Goal Scorer; Tijani Yusuf: 2017/2018 Most Valuable Player; Adeniran; Next rated footballer; Coach Mayowa: Next rated Coach; Coach Bayo: Best coach of the tournament. Amidst the joy and jubilations of students, the former SUG Sports Director, Com Olalekan (Ola General) commended the present SUG committee on the Freshers' Tournament and advised them to technically improve on their coordination, Logistics and Supervision.
