The Students Union Government, Olabisi Onabanjo University, will on Wednesday, 20th October 2021 host a Mental Health Summit; raising awareness around mental health-related issues and the need for people, especially, students to maintain good mental health status.
The Summit themed "Mental Health in an Unequal World" serves as a means of commemorating World Health Day which was on the 10th of October, 2021, and alleviating the Mental Health challenges students are facing in today's world.
In a chat with Campus Mirror, Oliyide Oluwadamilare Victor, the Medical Director for the SUG said "The union is aimed at addressing the Health as a whole and that is why World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as the physical well being, social well being, and mental well being. That is if the mental well being of a person is not in optimum condition the health of the person is incomplete."

The topics of the Summit include but are not limited to (I) Demystifying Mental illness (II) The pendulum Bob; Mental Health and Academics (III) Prevalence or Mental illness among Students; Causes and Prevention (IV) Guidance and Counselling in the 21st century; Role in managing students' mental health and a team of speakers led by the Provost of the Neuropsychiatruc Hospital Aro, Abeokuta.
Furthermore, the Panel Discussion involve panellists and experienced individuals coming together from diverse zones, people like; Dr Fatungase Olubunmi, Chief Medical Director, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital and Mr Dare Asobele, Founder, Anti Suicide and Depression squad amidst others personnel to address the topic "The role of societal strata in identification, contribution and prevention mental health challenges."
The medical director urges the students to attend the Summit which will be held at ICAN Lecture theatre, starting at 10:00 am and as regards the strict COVID-19 procedures, students are advised to come along with their nose masks. He also made it known that the Summit will be streamed online.
