Let me tell you something I wish someone had told me earlier. While I was busy comparing myself with my age mate’s success online, seeing posts of them being praised by others, comparison was slowly draining my happiness without me noticing, and it made me start questioning myself.
This is something many of us struggle with but rarely say out loud. It’s about comparison, especially comparing yourself with people your age.
As human beings, we naturally compare. Sometimes it happens without us even noticing. We look at our mates and begin to ask questions: Why is this person doing better than me? Why am I not there yet? And in today’s world, this comparison doesn’t stop with people around us,it extends to what we see online.
I know that sometimes you compare yourself to your age mates on social media,those who seem to be doing exceptionally well, living big, achieving milestones faster than you. But I want you to remember something important: All fingers are not equal. Everyone’s journey is different. Also, remember that people online only show you what they want you to see. You don’t see their struggles, delays, or failures,only the highlights.
Please be yourself. Work at your own pace. Don’t be hard on yourself because you haven’t reached where someone else is. Growth is not a competition,it is personal, so don't pressure yourself. Celebrate your wins, no matter how small they may seem. A win is a win, and every win deserves recognition.
Comparison is often called the Thief of joy, and rightly so. It quietly takes away your happiness without you even realizing it. While you’re busy measuring yourself against others, you forget how far you’ve come and how much effort you’ve put in.
Yes, learn from others, Be inspired by them. Let their success motivate you,but never compare yourself to them. Your path is your own, and your progress is valid.
Be proud of whatever you do,your work, your achievements, your effort. Know that you did that. It didn’t come easy. It took time, consistency, hard work, and perseverance. That alone is worth celebrating.
So, My Dear, walk your journey with confidence. Trust your process. Your time will come, and when it does, it will be beautiful in its own way.
