The outgoing leadership of OOU Campus Mirror formally handed over the affairs of the association to newly elected executives on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Mini Campus, Ago-Iwoye. Several members were also recognised for their exceptional contributions to journalism and organisational development.
The event was attended by members of the association as well as an alumnus, Mr Seyi Lasisi, who served as the guest speaker. He encouraged members and shared valuable insights from the field of journalism, making the occasion both enlightening and educational.
During the ceremony, the outgoing President and Editor-in-Chief, Mr Olasubomi Sangonuga, formally handed over the leadership of the organisation to the newly appointed President and Editor-in-Chief, Miss Mujidat Olaide Olusanya. Other executive positions filled included Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Public Relations Officer, Graphics Designer, and Heads of various desks.
Awards of recognition and excellence were also presented to members who distinguished themselves through outstanding performance and commitment to the principles of journalism. Categories included Best Feature Article of the Year, Most Promising Journalist of the Year, Best Sub-Editor of the Year, Best Reporter of the Year, and Broadcaster of the Year, among others.
Reflecting on his tenure, Olasubomi described the experience as both rewarding and demanding, noting that it strengthened his understanding of leadership, teamwork, and commitment.
"It was a wonderful experience that taught me a lot about leadership, teamwork, commitment, and a sense of community... Learning never stops, welcome all ideas, and remember that team bonding is important," he said.
Speaking on her emergence as the new President and Editor-in-Chief, Mujidat said her appointment was both surprising and humbling, considering she joined the organisation solely out of her passion for journalism.
She outlined her vision of fostering stronger relationships among members and encouraging greater collaboration across desks.
"My biggest goal is to build a stronger sense of community within OOU Campus Mirror... I want members to know one another, collaborate more, and genuinely feel like they are part of one family," she said.
She added that she hopes to build on the organisation's existing legacy by strengthening its visibility and expanding its impact.
