The Association of Students' Communicators (ASCOM), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), has successfully concluded its 2026/27 executive election, ushering in a new set of leaders to steer the affairs of the association in the coming academic session.
The election, held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, recorded the participation of 250 accredited voters across all contested positions. Results were announced shortly after collation by the ASCOM Electoral Committee.
Adeyemi Precious Adesola, former VP Academics, emerged as ASCOM's first female President-Elect, securing 169 valid votes from the 250 accredited voters. The presidential election also recorded 29 invalid votes and 52 void votes.
The race for the position of Financial Secretary was keenly contested, with Olajide Olamiji Favour defeating Kabirat by 74 votes to 52. Similarly, Ejide Kristin Oluwatimisin won the Social Director position, polling 87 votes against Gbengo's 61 votes.
Other elected officers include Oke Quam Olumide as Vice President (Academics), Fadairo Daniel Akorede as General Secretary, Agboola Fiyinfoluwa Peace as Assistant General Secretary, Adepoju Testimony Oluwamurewa as Sports Director, and Shoboyede Rahmat Adedamola as Welfare Director.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Badru Abdulazeez, confirmed that two presidential aspirants, Atanda AbdulMalik Oriyomi and Adenubi AbdulBasit Olatunbosun, were disqualified during the screening stage for failing to meet the academic requirements outlined in the ASCOM Constitution.
"The decision was made public after the screening exercise conducted by the Electoral Committee," Abdulazeez explained, stressing that all actions taken were guided strictly by constitutional provisions.
He further revealed that the committee introduced new measures during the election, including the counting of votes for unopposed candidates. Aspirants were also required to bring at least ten students to their manifesto presentations to improve voter awareness and minimize post-election disputes.
"I did my best to ensure a free, fair, and credible election," he said.
Reacting to her victory, President-Elect Adeyemi Precious Adesola described the moment as both historic and humbling, expressing appreciation to ASCOM students for entrusting her with the mandate to lead.
"I feel fulfilled, humbled, and deeply grateful to ASCOM students for their trust and support," she said.
According to her, the incoming administration will focus on three major priorities: establishing a relaxation centre where students can unwind from academic stress, organizing mindset-transforming seminars aimed at personal and academic development, and strengthening communication and alumni engagement to connect students with graduates for mentorship, networking, and career opportunities.
He concluded by celebrating what he described as a significant milestone in ASCOM's history—the emergence of its first female president.
"God bless ASCOM. God bless the Aso Rock-led administration. God bless the Precious-led administration," he said.
The newly elected executives are expected to be inaugurated in the coming days as ASCOM begins a new chapter in its leadership and administration.
