POLICE VOWS CRACKDOWN AS ROBBERS TERRORISE IBOGUN STUDENTS

Ogun Commissioner of Police promises swift deployment of security forces after students' union raises alarm over rising robbery and violent attacks on campus Students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) at the Ibogun Campus who are living in fear following repeated cases of armed robbery and violent attacks, the university's Students' Union Government (SUG) discloses today, as the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, pledged to deploy stronger security measures to end the crisis.

The SUG, led by Executive President Kehinde O. Bamgbose, raises the alarm in a letter to the university community on April 25th 2026, saying students no longer feel safe in their residences and live in constant dread of who may be attacked next.

"It is unacceptable for our students to continue living in fear and uncertain of whose residence may be attacked next or who may fall victim to violent incidents," the union said in its statement, stressing that the situation demands urgent and decisive action.

"The Commissioner of Police assured us of swift action and the immediate deployment of enhanced security strategies to curb these incidents and restore safety within the community."

The SUG's Legal Director, Ayoade Jesumbo John, raises the alarm after distress calls from students at the campus which prompts to convene an emergency virtual meeting with CP Ojajuni. The meeting which later extends to include the Area Commander of the Ibogun Division and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Ibogun Police Station, who were both briefed on the pressing security concerns.

At the end of the meeting, the police commissioner gives a firm assurance that officers would move quickly to stop the attacks and bring calm back to the area surrounding the campus. The SUG says, "it would continue to engage the appropriate authorities until the wave of insecurity is brought to a permanent end." The union also discloses that, "Vice-Chancellor of OOU is separately engaging relevant stakeholders at the highest levels to address the crisis." 

The SUG appeals to students currently staging a protest on the campus over the security situation to keep the demonstration peaceful and orderly. The union warns that hoodlums and external elements may try to take over the protest and urges participants to be vigilant so as not to endanger lives and property.

"We urge you to prevent any attempt by hoodlums or external elements to hijack the protest, as this could undermine our collective efforts and endanger lives and property."

The statement was signed by Bamgbose and General Secretary Olajire Emmanuel, and announced by the union's Public Relations Officer, Salau Michael Olamide.
